DQ 14: Effective best practices that help patient outcomes
Respond to yours classmate in not more than 250 words
Research is very critical in nursing practice as it helps come up with effective best practices that help patient outcomes (Augustine, 2016). And, it is the basic reason to be in this class to learn how to retrieve, read, critique and apply nursing research. Nursing research is very important as it helps correct past misunderstandings, and help pave way for new treatment interventions and methodologies that will help improve patient outcomes. As a nurse, research will help me to respond to changes in the healthcare environment considering that healthcare is in constant change, respond to patient population, and also to government directives on nurse practice (Augustine, 2016). New information on practice is coming out each day, and therefore, engaging in research will help me keep up with new developments to improve patient outcomes.
Nursing research is very important because it helps clear up misconceptions from the past and makes way for new treatments and ways of doing things that will help patients do better. As a nurse, research will help me respond to changes in the healthcare environment, since healthcare is always changing. It will also help me respond to the needs of patients and government rules on nurse practice (Augustine, 2016). Every day, new information about practice comes out. Doing research will help me keep up with these changes and use them to help my patients.
Also, I plan to use research to understand evidence-based practice so to be able to drive clinical decisions and care. I will use peer reviewed and published data to guide my practice as that is acceptable in nursing profession. However, results from my research will be free from bias, verifiable reproducible with similar research conditions (Boswell & Cannon, 2018). Of note, is that in evaluating published research, it is important to be careful of the validity, reliability and relevance of the available data to ensure expected outcomes, which should lead to improved care, and patients’ outcomes.
