Patients in the United States who are suffering from substance use disorders are eligible for screening, prevention, and intervention services thanks to the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Act of 2008 and the Affordable Care Act of 2010. These pieces of legislation were passed in 2008 and 2010 respectively (McLellan, 2017). The Addiction Severity Index (ASI) was developed to give information regarding the evaluation of treatment options for adult substance users. In addition, the ASI provides information about the challenges that substance users encounter as well as the types of treatment that they are presently receiving, either at home or in medical institutions (Wu et al., 2020). The data is reliable and legitimate despite the fact that the ASI method has a few restrictions on how it can be used (Wu et al., 2020). The second type of evaluation that was done was called the Maudsley Addiction Profile (MAP), and it was used to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy that was given to those who were addicted to using substances. The MAP evaluation concentrated its primary efforts on patients suffering from alcoholism and offered test-retest methodologies that could be clinically performed (McLellan, 2017).
In 2010, Congress provided funding for a new program aimed at preventing teen pregnancies. This program, known as the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, supported evidence-based programs at Tier 1 with a grant of $75 million and research and demonstration programs at Tier 2 with a grant of $25 million. The overall goal of this program was to combat “teenage pregnancy,” which is defined as the birth of a child by a This intervention will bring evidence-based initiatives to more communities across the country while also testing new approaches so that we can expand our toolkit of effective intervention. ” Teen pregnancy is a serious national problem, and we need to use the best science of what works to address it.” HHS Sec Kathleen Sebelles..

Areas of Specialization in Psychology

Areas of Specialization in Psychology
The psychology major provides its students with both a liberal arts education and the opportunity to explore specific areas of psychology in which they have special interests. Graduate education is a process of further refinement during which students become increasingly proficient and knowledgeable in an area of psychological specialization. Described below are some specialty areas in psychology that require graduate education. (See also APA’s Psychology/Careers for the Twenty-first Century: Scientific Problem Solvers.) This is by no means an exhaustive list of specialties in psychology, and if you wish to see a description of a particular area, please feel free to write and ask about it.
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY: Clinical psychologists assess and treat people with psychological problems. They may act as therapists for people experiencing normal psychological crises (e.g., grief) or for individuals suffering from chronic psychiatric disorders. Some clinical psychologists are generalists who work with a wide variety of populations, while others work with specific groups like children, the elderly, or those with specific disorders (e.g., schizophrenia). They are trained in universities or professional schools of psychology. They may be found working in academic settings, hospitals, community health centers, or private practice. (See also Counseling Psychology.)
COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY: Counseling psychologists do many of the same things that clinical psychologists do. However, counseling psychologists tend to focus more on persons with adjustment problems rather than on persons suffering from severe psychological disorders. They may be trained in Psychology Departments or in Schools of Education. Counseling psychologists are employed in academic settings, community mental health centers, and private practice. (See also Clinical Psychology.) Not to be confused with the field of psychology, psychiatry is its own medical specialty. THE DISCIPLINE OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY Clinical psychologists diagnose and treat patients who are suffering from psychological issues. Persons who are going through normal psychological crises, such as grieving, or people who are suffering from chronic psychiatric diseases may seek the help of these professionals as therapists. Some clinical psychologists are generalists who work with a diverse range of client populations, whilst other clinical psychologists specialize in working with particular client populations, such as children, the elderly, or people diagnosed with particular diseases (e.g., schizophrenia). They have received their education at reputable academic institutions or professional schools of psychology. Work environments such as hospitals, community health clinics, and private practices, as well as academic institutions, may also employ them. (For further information, also see counseling psychology.)
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY AND COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY Have Many of the Same Duties: Counseling psychologists and clinical psychologists perform many of the same duties. Counseling psychologists, on the other hand, have a tendency to concentrate more on patients who are struggling with issues of adjustment as opposed to patients who are suffering from serious psychiatric disorders. They can have received their education in the Psychology Department or the Education School. Academic institutions, community mental health centers, and private practices all make use of the services of counseling psychologists. (For more on this topic, see also Clinical Psychology.) Psychiatry is its own distinct discipline of medicine, and should not be confused with the more general field of psychology.
DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY: Developmental psychologists study how we develop intellectually, socially, and emotionally over the lifespan. Some focus on just one period of life (e.g., childhood or adolescence). Developmental psychologists usually do research and teach in academic settings, but many act as consultants to day care centers, schools, or social service agencies.
EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY: Educational psychologists are concerned with the study of human learning. They attempt to understand the basic aspects of learning and then develop materials and strategies for enhancing the learning process. For example, an educational psychologist might study reading and then develop a new technique for teaching reading. They are typically trained in Schools of Education and employed in academic settings. (See also School Psychology.)
EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY: This area includes a diverse group of psychologists who do research in the most basic areas of psychology (e.g., learning, memory, cognition, perception, motivation, and language). Their research may be conducted with animals instead of humans. Most of these psychologists work in academic settings.
FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY: Forensic psychologists are involved in analyzing crime evidence and aiding law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations. See the brochure from the Psychology and Law division of the American Psychological Association, on this site, for useful information.
HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY: Health psychologists are concerned with psychology’s contributions to the promotion and maintenance of good health and the prevention and treatment of illness. They may design and conduct programs to help individuals stop smoking, lose weight, manage stress, and stay physically fit. They are employed in hospitals, medical schools, rehabilitation centers, public health agencies, academic settings, and private practice.
HUMAN FACTORS PSYCHOLOGY: Human Factors researchers study the human/machine interface. They may help make appliances such as cameras user-friendly, or they may do studies of safety-related issues in the design of machinery, airplane controls and instrument layouts, or they may do basic research on human perceptual and motor abilities as they relate to the operation of machines, computers, and other mechanical devices.
INDUSTRIAL/ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY: Industrial/organizational psychologists are primarily concerned with the relationships between people and their work environments. They may develop new ways to increase productivity or be involved in personnel selection. They are employed in business, government agencies, and academic settings.
PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY: Physiological psychologists study the physiological correlates of behavior. They study both very basic processes (e.g., how brain cells function) and more readily observable phenomena (e.g., behavioral changes as a function of drug use or the biological/genetic roots of psychiatric disorders). Most are employed in academic settings.
SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY: School psychologists are involved in enhancing the development of children in educational settings. They assess children’s psycho-educational abilities and recommend actions to facilitate student learning. They are typically trained in Schools of Education and work in public school systems. They often act as consultants to parents, teachers, and administrators to optimize the learning environments of specific students. (See also Educational Psychology.)
SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY: Social psychologists study how our beliefs, feelings, and behaviors are affected by other persons. Some topics of interest to social psychologists are attitude formation and change, aggression, prejudice, and interpersonal attraction. Most social psychologists work in academic settings, but some work in federal agencies and businesses doing applied research.

What is Unified Psychology?

The Theory of Unified Psychology
What is Unified Psychology?
Is there a need to have a multitude of theories related to psychology? Some may say that it would
be better to have one unified theory of psychology. Sternberg and Grigorenko (2001) provided
some insight into a unified psychology as opposed to a psychology based on often competing
theories of multiple individual contributions of the sub-disciplines. The premise was that unified
psychology is an integrated study based on psychological phenomena rather than from a
multiparadigmatic and multidisciplinary frame of reference.
Sternberg and Grigorenko go on to explain:
Unified psychology involves giving up, or at least, putting aside, three bad habits
that are commonplace among some psychologists. The bad habits are: (a)
exclusive or almost exclusive reliance on a single methodology rather than
multiple converging methodologies for studying psychological phenomena; (b)
identification of scholars in psychology in terms of psychological subdisciplines
rather than in terms of the psychological phenomena they study; and (c)
adherence to single underlying paradigms for the investigation of psychological
phenomena. (p. 1069)
Sternberg, Grigorenko, and Kalmar (2001) continue the explanation of a unified psychology by
expanding on a unified theory of psychology. They provide an expanded explanation of the three
bad habits with some solutions. To gain a better understanding, let’s take a look at how a
traditional psychology department at a university may be designed.
Traditional vs Unified Psychology
Each department typically includes faculty members who are trained in a specific area of study
based on a particular school or field of psychology, such as behavioral, clinical, and cognitive.
There may even be only one main focus of a department, such as behavior analysis. Students
taking courses in this area can expect that courses will be delivered from the perspective of
behavior analysis (or whichever field their professor specializes in).
In a unified psychology department, the student would specialize in one or more areas of study
based on a particular phenomenon such as learning, discrimination, aggression, and/or mental
disorders. In practicality many psychology courses are designed around a multiple viewpoint
(field of study) perspective. Take for example the Abnormal Psychology course. In that course
you probably covered the different viewpoints and perspectives for a particular disorder or
condition. The multiple viewpoint perspective helps broaden the understanding of the disorder.
In practicality, does a unified psychology approach make sense? In one aspect, Melchert (2013)
compared other sciences and their ability to move to a unified approach or theory. For example,
physics and biology have been sciences much longer than psychology. They are a very diverse
group, and in some aspects, it doesn’t appear that either science is moving or has moved to a
unified theory or approach. Physiologically, human beings are nearly identical to one another.
The variations come in part from life experiences and potential genetic predispositional factors,
and even with those an individual can be grouped into like categories. In essence, that is the basis
for diagnostic criteria from a medical as well as mental disorder perspective

Psychology homework help

Consider the following scenario:

Two psychologists observe a student with attention problem to determine the percentage of time the student spends on a task in the classroom. They mark the student every ten seconds as either on the task or off the task. At the end of fifteen minutes, they compare their results.

Based on your understanding of the above scenario, create a 2- to 3-page report in a Microsoft Word document answering the following:

Explain the type of reliability that is being assessed by the two psychologists.
Explain why it will be important for these two psychologists to address variance when they are trying to assess the reliability of their methodology.
Explain why reliability is a property of an assessment score rather than a property of an instrument.
Explain what will happen to the reliability of scores if:
True scores are responsible for variability in observed scores?
Random errors are responsible for variability in observed scores?
Validity
Select any psychological trait such as:

Extroversion
Dependency
Aggressiveness
Agreeableness
Any trait is a fair game. Imagine that you have a colleague who created a new test to measure the psychological trait you choose. Because you are very interested in this particular psychological trait and thus, are interested in understanding whether your colleague’s test purports what it is touted to purport. Thus, you have decided to conduct a test to assess the validity of the instrument. Any characteristic can be up for discussion. Imagine that one of your coworkers has developed a brand new test that can measure the psychological characteristic of your choice. Because you have a strong interest in this particular psychological quality, and as a result, you are curious as to whether or not the test that your colleague developed actually reveals the information that it claims to provide. As a result, you have made the decision to carry out a test in order to evaluate the reliability of the equipment.

Based on your readings and understanding of the topic, answer the following:

Briefly outline the plan you would develop to obtain content, criterion, construct, and face validity evidence for the test.
Support your responses with examples.

Using APA format, appropriately cite your sources throughout the assignment and include references on a separate page.
